Literature
Literature in the 8th Grade contains a variety of literature appropriate to the interests and needs of students, provides practice developing those skills necessary to appreciate and understand the literature, and relates literature to language, composition, and thinking skills. The Research paper will be included in Literature as well as English. Students will receive a grade in both classes.
English
One of the main purposes of our study of English in the 8th Grade is to build a firm foundation not only for Language Arts in the student’s future but in all other areas as well. We will review and continue to use functions that students have studied and learned in previous years and we will learn new functions this year that they have not studied. The Research paper is a major part of our study this year.
Algebra I/General Algebra
This course is designed to explore the language of algebra in verbal, graphical and symbolic forms. Problem-solving activities and applications encourage students to model patterns and relationships with variables and functions. Applications, modeling activities and open-ended projects encourage a diversity of approaches to problem-solving. Examples, exercises and assessment activities integrate algebra topics with statistics, geometry and discrete mathematics.
Algebra I
Algebra I is considered a course offering 8th Grade students a high school Carnegie Unit (1) in Dougherty County. As such, Algebra I will be taught in sequence and on schedule dictated by the Dougherty County math curriculum department.
