Kindergarten Program

The Kindergarten program at St. Teresa strives to be a bridge between home and school for our children. Designed to meet the needs of the individual, the program addresses student learning styles with developmentally appropriate class activities which include whole groups, small groups and learning centers. The Kindergarten curriculum follows the guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Savannah and includes all Georgia and national learning standards.

The Kindergarten language arts program is based heavily on phonics and immersion in children’s literature. Concepts include letter identification and formation, letter/sound association and vowel/consonant identification. Blending sounds is introduced and developed as students begin to read words and developmentally appropriate books. Students also develop writing and reading skills through daily journal writing.

The Kindergarten manipulative-based math program introduces and develops a variety of concepts including patterns, numbers, sorting and classifying, graphing, measurement, fractions, time, money and addition and subtraction readiness.

Social Science and Science units are explored throughout the year and include themes such as All About Me, Families, Owls and Spiders, Space, Animals, Magnets, Air and Dinosaurs.

Religion is included in the daily curriculum and includes Christian beliefs such as God is loving and forgiving, each person is unique and special and families share love.
